Boxwood netsuke depicting a character sitting on the shell of a giant hamaguri (Meretrix lusoria – oriental clam). The representation alludes to a man involved in an erotic relationship from which he desperately tries to get out, as his shell symbolizes the vulva. Extensive gilt copper hardware incised with scrolling vines. The doors are in four sections: two sets that are hinged together and close with a single latch in the center.

An antique Japanese Tansu chest from the Tohoku region of Japan used for merchant organizing and storage. Made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods and finished using a wiped lacquer technique. 14 drawers total with the bottom two having lock plates where valuables were kept away from prying hands.

A set of Five Sencha Tea Cups made like blossoms of pastel colored clay on gray buy Kusaba Yuji enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Neriage Sai-ka-mon Senchawan zen. Each is roughly 9.3 cm (just less than 4 inches) diameter, 4.8 cm (2 inches ) tall and all are in excellent condition, directly from the artist.
Kusaba Yuji was born in Arita, the heartland of Japanese porcelain, in 1955, and graduated the prestigious Nihon Daigaku in 1979...
