The gunbai (gunbai-uchiwa) is a type of signal baton and Japanese war fan. Once held by military leaders (such as daimyō) and priests in the past, it is used in the modern day by umpires in sumo wrestling. Lacquered in black with swirling clouds, and moon with sun shown on both sides.
Gunbai, from the Sino-Japanese roots meaning "military-apportioned [fan]", were a specialized form of fan used by samurai officers in Japan to communicate commands to their troops...

Very rare poetic Setsu-getsu-ka Shino Chawan, formed and engraved by hand by Katō Sōsetsu ( 1834-unclear ). A potter born in what is known as the Edo period. Subject bowl is hand shaped, made without use of the potter’s wheel. A ceramic technique called kurinuki in Japan.

Setsu-getsu-ka (Setsugekka 雪月花, lit. 'Snow, Moon and Flowers') is written on the tea bowl (the other characters are hard to identify)...

A set of Gohon glazed dishes decorated with Akebi mountain fruits by Komatsu Kin (Hitoshi) fired at the Fuki Kiln enclosed in the original signed and compartmentalized wooden box also decorated inside the lid with the same hanging fruit. Each dish is roughly 16 cm (6 inches) diameter and all are in perfect condition.
Komatsu Kin (Hitoshi, 1902-1989) was born as the son of Buddhist priest Komatsu Baiyu, Head of Enmeiji Temple in Yamagata prefecture...

This is a Japanese antique tsutsugaki textile cotton Fireman Sashiko hanten coat made in the Edo period. It has been stored almost unused. The subject of the painting is a scene of Yoshitune Minamoto, one of Japan's most famous samurai fighters, confronting a Karasutengu monster on Mount Kurama outside Kyoto as a child. This motif is often depicted in Edo woodblock prints. The condition is very good. There is no fading or damage...

A very unusual digital camouflage tea cup by Kusaba Eight enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Saiji Neriage Kappu. It is 8 cm (just more than 3 inches) diameter,7.6 cm (3 inches) tall and in excellent condition, directly from the artist.
Kusaba Eight was born in Arita in 1982, son of the prodigal Kusaba Yuji, who bagan working the family kiln the year Eight turned 3. Eight as a personality is quite intense, and quick to smile. He quit school to join the Japanese Air Force...

A museum quality work by eclectic artist Kawamoto Goro, enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Sometsuke Utagaki-mon Kabin. This eight-sided vessel is decorated with key frets framing the maw under which people frolic about a stream of crashing waves. From his mature period, it is 8 3/4 inches (22 cm) tall roughly the same diameter and in excellent condition.

An ultra-modern hanging vase in ivory white porcelain by Matsumura Jun enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 34 cm (13-1/2 inches) long and in perfect condition, directly from the artist.
Matsumura Jun was born in Chiba Prefecture on the outskirts of Tokyo in 1986. He graduated from the University of South Alabama in 2010, and graduated the Tajimi Municipal Ceramics Research Facility in 2015, then went on to the Utatsuyama Research Facility in Kanazawa, leaving there in 2018...

Playable Antique Japanese Buddhist temple hanging lacquered drum. Gold and black lacquer with deer skin hide. Base is secure with four indepenent feet. A round gold gilt flaming archway ascends above the trum. Black lacquer over wood. With hand forged iron nails neatly holding down the tight skin.

This is absolutely rare:

A 16th century Momoyama Period Wa-Nari shaped Kuro Mino Chawan with a rounded brim and a 'wandering' lip, made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potter's knife in its lower part around the foot ring. A wonderful tong mark is still visible (please see picture number 3).

In the style of Kuro Oribe bowls this bowl was covered with a black glaze...

A mirror image pair of Japanese Meiji Era bronze vases with a bird hovering over flowers on both sides, and foo lion handles. Signed on bottom, these have excellent detailing and very good weight to them. Measure 13.75 inches high.
