A wild Edo period figure of a devil bent over backwards in the bridge position, a Sharito Tower balanced on his abdomen, a bell dragging him down suspended from his back. What awful crimes did he commit to be punished so!?! The bronze bell is either from, or at the least pays homage to, Korean styles. Dating from the Edo period, the unusual image is 22 x 14 x 66 cm (9 x 5-1/2 x 26 inches). Some minor losses to the polychrome consistent with age...

A Japanese bulbous bronze vase with a shiny patina and three elegant white egrets in inlaid silver with golden beaks and feet. Period: Meiji, late 19th century. Dimensions: 11 x 8.5 cm. Condition: Excellent.

Wonderful distorted grey shoe shaped (kutsugata) Shino-Oribe Chawan made of light, fine, unrefined Mino clay. Shape and style make it appear contemporary with the late Oribe bowls. The expertly thrown body is covered with the typical feldspatic Shino over an iron oxide based engobe.

It was made in the early stage of the Edo Period (1603-1868). Clay and rough glaze with some large pin holes indicate a rather early manufacturing date and firing in an anagama...

Hemp bag with age, Meiji 24 (1892) and the owner's name, Sahiko (佐彦）、whose warps and wefts are hand-plied. It has very well-done mending and reinforcement stitches, and also a mending patch. It has letters "25 sheets", but it is not clear what was put in. It is from Niigata prefecture. In good condition. W:29.5cm, L:52cm

Han-juban (short under kimono) made of handspun cotton with shibori (tie-dye), which is ai-gaeshi Miura Shibori. Ai-gaeshi is dyeing twice with indigo. Both sleeves are removed. In good condition, but some brownish stains around neck in spite it is washed. Late 19th to early 20th century. W:62cm, L:72cm
