This is a kagura costume made in the Tohoku region during the Meiji period. Kagura is a dance dedicated to the gods. Several types of pigments are used to paint this item. They are gold, green, bengara-red, yellow, white, brown and black. After first being dyed in beautiful indigo by Tsutsugaki, the painting is then painted freehand using pigments. Chinese antique monochrome porcelain gourd shaped vase with "peach bloom" glaze. Light red mottled with light green glaze. White glaze inside and inset bottom with 6 character Kangxi mark. Very fine hairline crack on the neck near mouth of vase.

Japanese antique carved boxwood figure of Soko-tanuki. Here he is disguised as a monk with a large temple bell. The story goes that a tanuki (who is famous for his shapeshifting abilities) worked in the temple for many years. One day while he was taking a nap, he was caught in his original form. But the kind monks allowed him to stay and continue his hard work as a page in the temple.

Korean antique screen painting in four panels. Painted with scenes of various types of birds and plants. The birds include parrots, doves and sparrows. And the plants include citron, peony, peach and cherry. Rock formations sprout lingzhi mushrooms. Painted in mineral colors on paper.

KINTA THE GHOST

Vintage Japanese mechanical doll called 'Obake-no-Kinta (Kinta the Ghost)' as a traditional folk toy with long history from the Edo period originated in Kumamoto region, made by the previous predecessor in Showa 30 (1955). H 23 x W 5.5 x D 10 cm (9.05 x 2.16 x 3.93in). When the string is pulled, he rolls his eyeballs and sticks out his tongue. Some tears at hat but in good preservation as is.

Rare cream colored glazed Myanmar bowl with incised lotus and flared rim design circa 13th/14th CE, found at the Tak Hilltop Burial Site along the border of Burma and Thailand. I bought this about 20 years ago, now you cannot find these anymore. There are 3 repairs on the rim. Of these white wares from Burma, I have only seen one unrestored piece. D: 17.7cm/7in and H: 7.5cm/2.9in.

A slightly lobed semi-eggshell porcelain saucer plate, decorated with auspicious finger lemons surrounded by scattered flowers within a spearhead border, all in iron red and gilt. China, Yongzheng period c 1730. Diameter 4 ½ " / 11.5 cm. Condition: repair to the rim (c.f. pics).

An exceptionally small Japanese tea or wine bowl and saucer, Edo period c 1710. Blood and milk iron red and gilt decoration of butterflies, flowers and swirls. Height of cup 1 ¼ " / 3.2 cm Diameter 2 ¼ "/ 5.5 cm, of saucer 3 ½ "/ 8.8 cm. Condition: repair to the saucer, the cup with a nick to the inner side of the foot rim (c.f. pics).

Made in Nagasaki and exported to Europe, where it was given as a Christmas present in 1867 - dedication and date engraved to the inside of the box lid. Good antique storage basket from the Bidayuh people of Sarawak. The lid is made from the skin of a sambar deer while the basket plaiting is rattan and the inside is lined with bark. I purchased this Kuching, Sarawak in 1988, and it was old at the time, so it's 38 years older now. There is a hole in the lid as well as some loss to the bark lining- please examine enlargements. H: 5ocm/19in and D: 35.5cm/14in.
