A fine woman's ceremonial skirt from Lampung Sumatra, woven in two parts. The striped cotton fabric sumptuously decorated with couched gold- and silver wrapped thread work and sequins, showing a row with birds. Condition: traces of age and usage, faded, few stains and missing sequins. Dimension: c. 118 cm x 119 cm.

Large single panel ikat from Jepara, Java, Indonesia. L: 2.9meters x 1.2 meters. The bright yellow and blue thread are chemical dyed commercial cotton, but the rest is handspun threads and vegetable dyes. This was made in the late 1980s and perhaps it would have been made into several sarongs or a commercial arts and crafts export. Very dramatic pattern. Supple cloth.

An oval black lacquered box with gilt relief decoration, in so-called "thayo" techique. Made of woven bamboo, the interiors of the base and the lid are decorated in red lacquer. Dimension: 11.8 cm high x 20.8 cm x 18.6 cm wide. Condition: rims with small lacquer losses, few tiny chips.

Unlike the majority of these manuscripts which have a textile or vegetable base this one is on metal. It comprises 9 leaves and 2 thick wood decorated covers. Condition good with some losses to corners but nor affecting text.
Purchased in London from Henry Brownrigg in 1992 and now fresh to the market after being in one collection for 33 years.
