$120.00 Sample book of small pattern katazome with 105 fragments which are plain silk, silk crepe, asa (hemp or ramie), and some rare shifu (woven of paper yarn). The title is "Edo Komon", but it includes asa fragments with komon (smal pattern) for Edo samurai's kamishimo as well as komon from other places out of Edo (Tokyo). Their ages are from late Edo (mid 19th century) to Taisho period (1912~1925)
It has 50 pages which are washi (handmade paper) and has woodblock print frames and letters...

$5,500.00 Japanese antique hikeshi banten, fireman's coat. Made of indigo dyed cotton and stitched over every inch using a sashiko quilting technique. Fires were common in Japanese urban areas due to the dense population as well as construction material (primarily wood and paper). Fire brigades were made up of samurai class (buke hikeshi) as well as common class (machi hikeshi) and their primary goal in containing a fire was to knock out the surrounding buildings so the fire had no more fuel...
An antique vertical Japanese wall hanging made of velvet, partially cut and painted with ink and colors. Beautiful depiction of two fighting cocks and chickens in a bamboo groove. Original brocade border and printed cotton lining. Signed and sealed in the lower right corner. Condition: right low corner with water stains, faded, the border is in patches brittle and raddled. Dimension with bordure: c. 185 cm x 114.5 cm.
