Sold, Thank you. Beautiful long cloth with benibana dye (safflower dye) shibori pattern. In Edo period, benibana was grown in Yamagata prefecture in Tohoku district and traded to Kyoto in paste. It was very precious and used for luxurious kimono. This cloth might have been used for hem cloth for kaya (mosquito net) hung in the Japanese style room. Faded but in good condition. It has some jointing stitches and stains. Late 19th to early 29th century. W:16cm, L:9m46cm

The painter is Takashima Chiharu (1777-1859), who was a Japanese style painter in late Edo period and belonged to Tosa faction. The original designs were painted in Kyoho 11 (1840) and this book was published by Anayama Tokutaro, who founded Yurindo in Meiji 7 (1874), and published by Yurindo around 1890.
