Uchikui made of choma (ramie) whose warps and wefts are hand plied. It has auspicious motif, "pine tree, baboo and plum flower", which is tsutsugaki, free hand paste resist dye. The ground cloth is dyed with Ryukyu ai, vegetable indigo of Okinawa and colored with pigments on both sides. Uchikui is not only for wrapping but also for laying out, covering a head or goods. The last image is from "UCHIKUI Wrapper of cover of Okinawa" published by Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum in 2015...

Noren made of asa (probably choma, ramie), both wefts and warps are hand plied and vegetable indigo dye. It has family crest "Maru-ni-kazura Kashiwa Mon" (creeping plant and oak leaf in circle crest). One of the panels is missing. Cotton cloth of the top and belts are handspun and vegetable indigo dye. In good condition but has a few small holes. 19th century. W:157cm, L:171cm

To dye it black, you first dye it with a liquid made by boiling the nuts of trees such as tsurbami and yasya, then soak it in a liquid containing iron to develop the color. It must have been handed to a few generations, from late Edo to Meiji period (mid 18th to early 20th century). In excellent condition.
