Two Sometsuke tea containers decorated with scholarly scenes and lengthy calligraphic prose by Seifu Yohei I enclosed in a double wood box (ni-ju-bako) annotated by the fourth generation Seifu. They are 6.5 cm square, 13 cm tall. One has a some damage to the inner rim, a chip in the lid and a nick in the glaze of the bottom corner. Repairs can be performed at cost if desired

Wow! This is quite a tsubo by revivalist Takahashi Shunsai enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shigaraki Kama Hana Tsubo. A wack of ash blasts the shoulder over raw shiseki studded terracotta clay scorched the color of bricks. Fired on its side, opposite is charred and covered in molten ash where it had been buried in the embers. This is truly a classic Shigaraki work down to the belt of cross hatches at the shoulder and two stage mouth...

A young girl, her hair loosely bound, drifts off into a fond memory with a smile as she brushes a letter, the reem of paper draped from her left hand, the bamboo brush idle in her right. Incredible detail from the Kinkozan Kiln in Kyoto stamped on the pale clay of the base. It is 18 cm (7 inches) long, roughly the same height and in excellent condition. Better known for Kyo-satsuma style pottery works, this is a rarity.

Antique Japanese oribe ware chawan (tea cup). Buff color stoneware with reddish brown translucent glaze. Two areas of thick white crackle glaze with black brushwork motifs give this cup it's traditional oribe appearance. Satisfying weight and shape. Lovely drips and depth. With tomobako.

Vibrant red glaze is dribbled randomly across the scored and scarred light glazed body of this magnificent Chawan by Yamada Kazu enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kaku-yu Oribe Chawan. The form is slightly belted, to allow the bowl to settle comfortably into the palm. The very traditional silhouette however has been paddled and graffiti structures scratched into the surface. Over this has been applied an overall white glaze, with black and red ladled out on top of that...

Japanese Green Kutani Stoneware Dish, 8 1/4" diameter, 1 3/8" high, with very design of two(2) horses, one is white, other horse is gold, with attendant enjoying two(2) Birds singing on the tree branches in the Forest, surrounded with ornate intricate macramé design in Orange and green overglaze Border. Signed on the bottom "KUTANI" on top of the dark orange color inside the bottom rim, and black scrolling Vine design on top of the overglaze Green. The condition is good, no damages.

A fabulous wavering form accentuates the fissured ice-like glaze of celadon master Uraguchi Masayuki enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Seiji Kokusho Mizusashi. The black lacquered lid is like a dark pool in the middle of the flaring body. The sleek shape is very much his own, and the deeply crackled glazes he employs have been developed over a lifetime of experimentation...

This little guy is just about the cutest thing I have ever seen. A tiny mouse rests atop a bulging white radish, bristling blue leaves in full detail attached as if pulled fresh from the ground. Dating from the 19th century (later Edo to early Meiji period), it comes enclosed in an age darkened wooden box titled Daikon Nezumi Futamono (Radish/Mouse Lidded Receptacle). I confess in over 25 years dealing in Japanese art and antiques I have never seen one like it. It is in excellent condition...

Gold nuggets gleam on the deep lavender and black surface of this organic form by Inayoshi Osamu enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kurinuki Kinsai Mizusashi. Kinsai is literally gold color, and here the artist has embedded gold into the surface, allowing it to expand and bubble out in the heat of the firing process. The effect of this on the dark matt surface is both striking and original...
