This jar, a water pot, was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279). The outer surface is coated in a finely-crackled pale greenish Qingbai type of glaze. The quality of the weaving is superb; the stitches are tiny and astonishingly regular. This is an exceptionally excellent embroidery, created in one of the best weaving workshops in southern China. The vivid colors allow us to date the work to the second half of the 19th century, during the Cixi period.
