This fine pottery figure was made during the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368). It is made from a dark grey/black pottery that is quite highly-fired. The figure represents a young male groom. He wears a long-sleeved robe and stands with his left arm across his chest, his right arm and hand extended as though holding something, possible the reins of a horse... A fine Qing dynasty carved white pale celadon jade belt hook with a dragon's head having bulging eyes and a sinuous chilong, the underside with an oval disk for attachment. Mounted with a painted enamel copper cup, marked "China". Condition: few traces of usage, few tiny losses to enamel. Dimension: total length c. 16.8 cm, jade hook length: c. 10.5 cm.
