Spoils of Time
$65 Two Zohiko covered rice bowls. Colorful leaf decoration sparsely applied on black ground with almost iridescent effect with gold and silver maki-e and red details. Zohiko marks in gold lacquer inside the bowls' foot rims. 20th century. Bowl diameter 5 1/16 inches (12.86 cm). The bowls each with small lacquer losses along the foot rim. The lacquer otherwise being in good condition with no distress or wear of note. Combine with other pieces from this set to save on shipping.

£65.00 A Japanese woodblock print of a kneeling male figure drying a shō, a traditional musical instrument of the reed family, a form of mouth organ, over a brazier. The print is attributed to Kitao Masanobu, 1761~1816 and probably dates to the late 18th century.
A good impression with some gauffrage on the kimono collar. The mount is inscribed in pencil “Mafsanobu”. Approximately 20.3 x 14.4 cm. The print is laid by the edges to thin card. It is foxed at the edges...

Hotei is the god of contentment and happiness, and his bag holds an inexhaustible cache of treasures. The standing boy measures about 3" high x 1 3/4" wide. The riding boy measures about 3" x 1 3/4" high. The bag with pot measures about 3 1/2'wide x 2" tall. All three droppers date to the early 20th Century...

Wave in paper where original publisher's tag is attached to the back. The Matsumoto catalog states, "Butterflies are flitting to and fro among the flowers." An early and rarely seen design.
