Katagami which is used for katazome (stenci-resist-dye), made of many layers of washi (Japanese handmade paper). It is painted with kakishibu (persimmon tannin) for waterproof and strength. The pattern "Kanze-mizu" is derived from the crest of the Noh drama player Kanze Dayu which is whirl of water. He was the founder of Kanze style Noh (15th century). A piece of hand-spun cotton cloth with katazome (stencil-resist dye) mum pattern on both sides. The ground cloth is vegetable indigo dye and flowers are benibana (safflower) dye. The first half of the 19th century. In excellent condition, except for a mending patch. W:29.5cm, L:60cm

Japanese Imari Porcelain Octagonal/Hexagonal shape Dish, early part of 1900's, 1 3/8" high, 6 1/8" x 5 1/4" wide, overglaze and gilt highlight design of a Swan with red crown flying over the Japanese Bamboo fenced flower garden in the center. Invisible restoration on one(1) small chip 1/4" area, and very shallow stained old chip 1/2" long on the top rim.

An attractive Japanese Arita porcelain square dish with canted corners, decorated with an oversized sage lost in reverie by a lake. The unusual borders completely painted with figures in a landscape. Late 18th ~ early 19th century.
