An exquisite pottery form by Kawase Takeshi enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hakuji Hori Hanamoyo Sara. The fluted edge rises around a central garden filled with scrolling florals. It is 14 inches (35 cm) diameter and in fine condition.

Antique Japanese carved wooden theatre fox mask (kyogen mask) with a movable jaw that would be opened and closed by the wearer's mouth. The eyes are painted in gold while the face is painted in white lacquer with red pigment accents. A fierce scowling expression is carved into the face. Antique Japanese Sendai region clothing tansu made with beautiful Keyaki wood in original red lacquer finish, the front frame edged in black lacquer, with large floral motif iron hardware, and a side lockbox with two drawers inside. Gorgeous Japanese lacquer box with allover gilt lacquer designs over black lacquer backgrounds with gold flakes. The front has two drawers with a crane flying beside a pine tree in lacquer. The top opens into two compartments with hinged lids decorated with a phoenix and a cherry tree. Panels of floral scenes with lucky motifs decorate the sides. Signed tomobako included. Dates from the Meiji period 1868-1912. Size: 6.25" H x 11" W x 10.5" D

Shiny and vivid Aka Raku (Red Raku) Chawan, hand molded during the Meiji Period around 1900. The chawan is signed and the wood box is included, too.

Some parts of the chawan were intentionally left unglazed (white parts around the foot - no cracks!) to generate imperfection.

This is a beautiful cloisonne vase. It is not signed but it appears to be a vintage Hayashi Kodenji piece. The colors are brilliant and the enamel has a high gloss. Besides the top and bottom scroll work there are 7 butterflies that adorn this vase. This stout vase stands 7 1/4 inches tall and is 6 inches wide. The rims are silver and condition is excellent.

Very large Japanese shigaraki jar. with "watermelon" style blue and green glaze drips over a thick crackle cream base glaze. It tapers to a very narrow foot, with a drainage spout. Beautiful original condition, 19th century. Size: 42" H x 25"W

Antique Japanese isho tansu (clothing chest) from the Sendai or Iwayado area of Japan. The front of the tansu is made all of kiri (paulownia) wood and it has it's original finish and patina. This antique Japanese small drawstring fisherman's bag is woven from hand rolled cording using indigenous natural plant fibers. It would be used for carrying home the catch at the end of day. The bag shows some areas of staining and one small area near the bottom where a few fiber cords have split. these condition areas are to be expected of a folk art item of this age and use. ,,,,,

the bag is roughly 10 x 12 inches and has a generous amount of cording for adjustable straps.

Antique Japanese unusual tansu made from a very attractive Keyaki (elm wood) burl coated in original lacquer finish. It has drawers of varying sizes, with warabite shaped iron handles, the top and bottom drawers have decorative iron lock plating incised with a floral design, safebox in bottom corner with original key. Japanese late Meiji period Imari porcelain lidded serving dish or bowl decorated in underglaze blue and overglaze polychrome enamels with gilt highlights. The center of the densely patterned brocade lid features a butterfly among gourds. The bowl is decorated entirely in underglaze blue (sometsuke) and holds three floral sprays about the circumference. Slightly distorted cylinder shaped (hanzutsu) tea bowl made of light, fine, unrefined Mino clay. Shape and style make it appear contemporary with the late Oribe bowls. The expertly thrown body is covered with the typical black oniita engobe inside and outside - with the exception of the bottom - over which a white, feldspatic Shino glaze has been poured.

Just the foot ring and its immediate surrounding was left unglazed...
