Antique Japanese large pulley carved of beautiful hardwood on custom Iron Stand. Two wooden wheels on the inside are built to support a rope. The hardware is made of iron and includes a large swiveling hook. A wonderful example of utilitarian Mingei elevated to sculpture. Meiji Period (1868 - 1912). Mokkogate samurai sword guard (tsuba) made of shibuishi with gold inserts, with katakiri decor representing on one side a monk sitting and holding a brush and surrounded by clouds and on the other side a dragon emerging from clouds. The tsuba is signed. Japan, Edo Period, 18th/19th century. Diameter: 6.7 cm. the tsuba is offered in its original box. Very good condition. Provenance: Old Canadian collection. Sennin, Daoist immortals, relax, Gamma with his three legged toad looking shocked upon his shoulder, Tekkai sending his spirit forth, the essential equipment of the Daoist life scattered about them. The painting is dated 1912 and signed Kodo. The artist has chosen a very humorous stance from which to depict his subjects. The silk image is mounted on a panel of applied gold flake and framed in striped Ebony,. The frame is 142 x 48 cm (58 x 19 inches)...

A spectacular Shino Vase in deep murasaki and white by Tamaoki Yasuo enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 11 inches (28 cm) tall, roughly the same diameter and in excellent condition. This piece is from the era in which Yasuo won the Japan Ceramic Society award (JCS) in 1979. Included is a catalog from Mitsukoshi Department Store and an advertisement for the Exhibition of JCS Award Winners.
Yasuo was born in Tajimi in 1941, one of the homes of Mino ware...

A lovely Japanese Kutani porcelain tea caddy with bird and floral motif accented with gold gilt on a pink ground. Measures 4.5 inches high and about 3.75" diameter.

Japanese Noh theater Ko-omote (young lady) mask. Beautifully carved out of wood and delicately painted with the rounded features and slight smile of a young lady. She has the shaved eyebrows which have been stylized and darkened up high on her forehead and the delicate blackened teeth of an upper class woman. Caved mark on the back. Showa Period (1926-1945). Size: 8 1/4" high x 5 1/4" wide.
