An early and rare Japanese copper plaque showing a bird on a prunus mume twig, worked in dull colored cloisonné enamels, the reverse with green contre-émail. The former owner attributed this artwork to an artist of the "Japonisme Movement". Condition: bubble bursts, a hairline (see photo No. 5). Dimension: 20.3 cm x 20.3 cm x 0.3 cm.

Like a fossilized ammonite excavated from some dry desert pit, dry green glass leaves off to arid cracked earth on this swirling vessel by Atarashi Kanji enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is a powerful work with sensational textures. 26 cm (10 inches) diameter, rising from 7 to 11 cm (3 to 4-1/2 inches) high at the shoulder. Due to the convoluted shape and extreme temperatures there are stress fractures born from the firing process...

Rare Japanese Sado Island Funa Tansu, also known as a captains ship safe. Made of solid quarter sawn Keyaki (Zelkova wood) burl construction with heavy hand-forged iron plates and mounts. The front of the piece with a drawer above a pull-out panel, opened by Kakute handles. The bottom panels pulls away to reveal four interior drawers surrounding a second pull-out panel, all with Hirute handles. The middle panel opens to a safe keeping box with heavy iron lock and hardware...

This is a very fine unsigned Japanese cloisonne vase with a unique form. The enamel and wire work are exquisite. It is not signed but the quality is so good and so unique that the maker is Hayashi. Look at the last image of a signed 3 3/4 inch vase and compare them. The work on this vase is not only similar, the gold wire birds, unique spider mums and leaves on this vase are even smaller in size...

A beautiful limited reference book containing the collection of the Baur Museum in Geneva, Switzerland of "Japanese Sword Fittings and Associated Metalwork", written by Basil William Robinson (former in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London). Hardback with 444 pages, 752 illustrations (several in color), section with signatures. Cloth with dustjacket, printed 1980 in a limited numbered edition of 1600, this is No. 52. Condition: fine. Antique Persian Baluch rug, 100% hand woven wool in rust brown, light red, and indigo hues, with repeating geometric motifs throughout. These rugs are hand-knotted by the nomads of Baluch. Baluch or Baluchistan is the area between the borders of Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan-- this is why Baluch rugs are said to be a mixture of three different regions.
