An antique Japanese Choba Tansu (merchant chest) made of Kiri (Paulownia) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. Original hand forged iron hardware with Kaute style handles. 6 drawers of varying sizes with a pair of sliding doors and a security door that hides 2 additional drawers and a secret box where valuables were kept.

This Tansu would make a perfect side chest or nightstand.

An Edo period incense burner of wood cut in a squash shape known as an Akoda-koro covered in black lacquer with designs of aogai-shell laid onto the surface under a solid silver dome-lid. It is 11 cm (4-1/2 inches) diameter and enclosed in modern custom wooden storage box. There are losses to the raden design revealing the underlying tonoko on which it is laid.

A 19th Century food storage box of wiped on black lacquer featuring a striking tri-foil heraldic crest design in mother of pearl on the top, bands of mother of pearl flakes about the rim and foot. Inside is festive crimson. Overall it is in excellent condition, 36.5 cm (14-1/2 inches) diameter, 26 cm (10-1/4 inches) tall. It comes in the original lacquered wooden storage box.

Floor cushion cover (zabuton-gawa) made of choma (ramie) whose warps and wefts are hand-plied. It has beautiful katazome (stencil-resist-dye) bamboo motif. The white ground katazome is called "Jishiro" which is rather rare than indigo ground one. It has also nice cloth with stripes for lining, whose warps are cotton and wefts are ramie. Probably made in Echigo, now Niigata prefecture. In excellent condition. The second half of the 19th century. 64cm x 68.5cm

Sekkei Sansui-zu (landscape with snow). Painted with ink on paper. Signed and Sealed. It is framed without glass.It is dated on 1875 on the painting.

Some insignificant light marks, traces of damage that has been restored before, are present on the painting itself, otherwise the piece is in very good condition. Some tiny damage is present on the frame, otherwise it is in very good condition with the age...

The box is made up of two superimposed parts which are partially covered by a surprisingly openwork lid, largely revealing the sides. Inside there is a small tray. The preciousness of this box is matched only by its fragility; however, it is in a perfect state of conservation, which is exceptional...

An antique Japanese Kansai Mizuya Tansu (kitchen chest) in 2 sections made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Keyaki (Zelkova) woods. All original hand forged iron hardware including the Hirute style handles. Three pairs of sliding doors of varying sizes with 8 drawers on the upper half and 5 drawers to the bottom half. There is a split level shelf behind each set of doors.

Age: Meiji Period (1890-1910)

Dimensions: 70 3/4" Wide by 67 1/4" High by 19 1/4" Deep

An Inuyama style pottery dish covered in black lacquer; the two pinched areas of the rim decorated with slight gold designs of fortuitous symbols from the Toyoraku kiln of Nagoya. Inside the dish features crackled glaze decorated with young pine and bamboo shoots with splashes of Oribe green. The Toyoraku stamp is visible to the left of the design. The dish is roughly 17.5 cm (7 inches) diameter and in excellent condition...

The poem etched on the side of this exceptional piece reads: "As a pastime ― bringing clumsy, fragile things to sell ― at Uruma Market ― how lonely!"  A very significant poem as it conveys a bit of irony; for the Edo period nun who inscribed this poem would go on to create a legacy of art, beauty, and philosophy that endures even today...

An antique Japanese Yonezawa Isho Tansu made of Kuri (Chestnut) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. All original Urushi lacquer finish and hand forged iron hardware. Lock plates feature the family crest of the original owner with bronze outer circular frames. The handles are of the Warabite style. Five drawers with a security hinged door that hides 2 additional drawers.
