An antique Japanese Biraki Kotansu (small chest with two hinged doors) made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware and Urushi lacquer finish. The doors open to a set of 7 drawers of varying sizes. It would make the perfect side chest or bedside nightstand.

Antique Japanese scroll painting of Kannon also known as Guanyin. The Goddess of Mercy sits on a rock overhanging a still body of water. She is silhouetted by the full moon. Painted in sumi-e ink on paper. There is a seal in the lower right hand side.

A fine Japanese incense burner, made of wood with pierced gilt copper lid, the interior with copper lining. On a black lacquer ground slightly raised decoration showing a landscape with rockwork and trees in different gold lacquer techniques. Condition: please look at the photos carefully, traces of age and usage, few small lacquer losses, rim with two cracks, lid slightly distorted. Dimension: c. 8.4 cm high, c. 4.8 cm long and wide.

Small porcelain dish from Japan. Decor of birds in flight in a landscape with trees and flowers painted in enamels and gilding. The porcelain is exceedingly thin similar to eggshell porcelain. Three Chinese characters are enamelled in red below, probably Kutani's mark. The designs are neat and of the best quality. Very fragile but good condition. D:138mm.

A hawk rests on an elaborate perch, the feathers fluffed up, each uniquely carved on this rare okimono from the Mushiake kilns of Okayama prefecture. It comes in an ancient kiri-wood box. The notation on the side of the box states it was received in late Meiji 27 (1894) from the former Head of the Okayama fief Ikeda Mochimasa. The name of the recipient has been redacted, as is often the case when things change hands in Japan. It is 24 x 7.4 x 29 cm (9 x 3 x 11-1/2 inches)...

KUGUTSU

Mask part of primitive wooden puppet as the original form transitioning to Ningyo Joruri (Japanese puppet drama) called Kugutsu. Edo period (1603-1868). approx. 14.3 x 19.5 x 6 cm (5.62 x 7.67 x 2.36in)...

The metal head of the rattle – called shakujo – with some simply engraved decoration on the central shaft indicating lotus petals. The central ring has the shape of an inverted heart, from which six rings loop, three on each side.
The six rings symbolize the Six Realms of Existence where Jizō is active and the Six Perfections that lead to nirvana: generosity, morality, patience, vigor, concentration, and wisdom.
Mounted on a short wooden pole, covered with red lacquer...

Japanese Dragon design Cast Black Iron Tetsubin, Teapot, this kettle is supported with three(3) small feet, with twisted iron handle, and Pewter top, Meiji period, 1880's, 9" high include handle up, 9 1/2" wide include the spout, rust inside the tea pot, with twisted handle and impressed design of vines on the Pewter top cover, raised Dragon is flying among the clouds. The tip of spout is brokwn off and repaired(small piece of broken piece is saved inside the kettle).

Old paper scroll of hand-drawn cemetery layout of a Buddhist temple called Kokyu-ji in Indian ink, with detailed information including the dead person's name and date, and the location of Jizo, tree, and path, ordered by a village officer named Kakigi Sanjuro in May 8th, Tempo 11 (1840) during the Edo period. All extended: approx. 130 x 51.5 cm (51.18 x 20.27in). Some stains and rips due to aging as is...

This is a rare and tattered tunobukuro bag textile made from old hemp and rags from the Meiji period (1868-1911). This is the bag you put the sweetfish in after you catch them. It's been used a lot, so it's a little soft. It has been washed, so there is no smell. You can enjoy both sides. Size: Length: 140cm (55.1"), Width: 30cm (11.8").

Iron metal rod. Painted with ink on paper. Signed Seiki and sealed. It is a type of weapon, a thick iron rod with warts on it. In pictures of demons, it refers to the stick that demons are holding in their hands. In Japan, there is a saying, "Kanabo for demons". If you equip a strong demon with a powerful weapon, a metal rod, it will become even stronger. This is a parable about someone who is already strong and becomes even more powerful by having something added to them...

This antique Iga vase is a true beauty, made of wonderful native Iga clay.

The vase was made between 1800 - 1850 during the later Edo Period and is in great antique condition. No chips or repairs. It comes with an old wooden box and an old cloth bag (which has a small torn part).

Iga ware's origins are believed to date to the second half of the 7th century and 8th century A.D...
