Antique Japanese Seto Ware stoneware ishizara (food plate). Covered with a cream colored slip and painted with a pair of crayfish in gosu blue glaze. Produced in or around the city of Seto in Aichi Prefecture. Seto is considered one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan.

Age: Tokugawa Shogunate, Edo Period (late 18th/early 19th century).

Antique Japanese porcelain kogo (incense box). Round in form and flat on top. Glazed with a lovely crackled white ground and two blue butterflies, one on the lid and one on the side where the two pieces join. Signed "Taisuiken" on the inside of the lid. With original tomobako.

An original limited edition Kiyoshi Saito woodblock print entitled Chapel France that was made in 1960 and numbered 11 of 120. Deep purple hues border a silvery road which visually leads to the bare branches of a tree in winter. The focus then turns to a somewhat distant church in the background which is this prints main theme. Saito then layered this print with textured paint adding a depth unlike most of his other prints...

An antique Japanese Niigata Kasane (chest on chest) Tansu made of all Kirinoki (Paulownia) wood. Original hand forged iron hardware with a hand applied red lacquer finish. Kakute stye handles. Four large drawers with a small hinged door that hides 2 small drawers. Constructed using straight dovetail Japanese joinery and hardened wooden nails. Each section has two sets of carrying handles for ease of transport and placement...

Rivulets of ash dribble down the red earth sides of this vase by Nishiura Takeshi enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Echizen Henko. Positioning in the kiln, with one shoulder angled toward the flame, ensure the lip and one rounded corner are charred in that distinct ocher inidicative of the region. Elsewhere the ash is molten green. A great example of this lesser known ancient kiln site. The vessel is 18 x 13 x 17.5 cm (7-1/2 x 5 x 7-1/2 inches) and is in excellent condition...

A graceful vase with elongated neck covered in spotted celadon by rare early 20th century female artist Suwa Sozan II enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 25 cm (10 inches) tall and in excellent condition.
Suwa Sozan (1852-1922) was born in Kutani country, present day Ishikawa prefecture, where he initially studied before moving to Tokyo in 1875. Over the next 25 years he would gravitate between Tokyo and Kanazawa, working at various kilns and research facilities...

Signed in relief on the back and under the lid. Difficult to date. Meiji or Edo ? only the translation of the signature could tell us the artist and the period. Each cup is 9 cm (3-1/2 inches) diameter, 6 cm (2-1/2 inches) tall and in excellent condition. There is a stain in the box between the title and signature.
