Antique Japanese long silk textile, possibly used as an altar cloth. Made of blue silk and woven with thin strips of metal leaf covered paper in a dramatic scene of a dragon in swirling clouds above waves. Framed in antique silk textile with woven designs of dragons.

A great example of a modern Shino tea bowl based on pieces being produced nearly 500 years ago in the kilns of Mino. This piece shows excellent texture to the glaze with a very active and diverse ceramic landscape. In addition, the use of a darker ferrous compound gives it a rather weighty and seasoned appearance when compared with the more commonly encountered red Shino glazes of the modern day...

We continue our presentation of Ohi chawan (Ohi tea bowls) with yet another sublime vessel, a true eye-catcher made at the end of the Meiji Period around 1910. It's a unique Ohi Chawan which seems to be a kuro Raku bowl, but it isn't. With its sophisticated shape and its mesmerizing play of predator pattern inside its outstanding.

Ohi ware is indeed closely related to Raku; the first Ohi potter was the son of Raku III, Donyu, and apprenticed to the fourth Raku master, Ichinyu...

Everything you could want in firing effects decorate the various sides of this Iga Tsubo by Tanimoto Yo enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 23.5 cm (9 inches) diameter, 26.5 cm (10-1/2 inches) tall and in excellent condition.
Born in 1958 the son of Iga potter Tanimoto Kosei, Yo was raised among the kilns and has always had his hands in clay...

A breathtaking work in perfect green porcelain glaze by Shimada Fumio enclosed in the original sined wooden box titled Seihakuji Budo-cho mon Tsubo (Celadon Tsubo Carved with Grape Designs). It was exhibited at the Shimada Fumio Sakuto 40 Shunen ten and Gendai Kogei Fujino Ten (2014). The vase is 20 cm (8 inches) diameter, the same height, and is in excellent condition.
Shimada Fumio is undoubtedly one of the greatest artists working in porcelain in Japan today...

A beautiful combination of grays and lavenders covers the natural sculpted form in sunset color Hagi clay by legendary artisan Kaneta Masanao enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Hagi Kurinuki Hanaire dating circa 2000. It is 30 x 24 x 23 cm (12 x 10 x 9 inches) and is in excellent condition.
Kaneta Masanao likely needs no introduction, certainly one of Hagi is most well known names, he has been displayed both nationally and internationally innumerable times...

Elegant Japanese bronze hanging lantern from the Taisho Period, C.1920. Each of the four panels has a different scene of auspicious symbols: bamboo, plum blossoms, cherry blossoms. A spectacular square vase of undulating misty mountain forms in colored clay by important ceramic artist Miyashita Zenji enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The colors break from rich dark blue through the green spectrum to yellow and black. It is signed on bottom. The vase measures 29 x 22 x 28 cm tall (11-1/2 x 8-1/2 x 11 inches) and is in excellent condition. Included is the original box cover written by Zenji...

A real piece of art: Shino-Oribe Tea Bowl from the early Edo Period (around 1620, early 17th century). It is a shoe shaped Kutsugata Chawan covered with a whitish Shino-Oribe glaze over an iron oxide engobe in two quarter sections, where a triangle has been scratched into the dark engobe. The other two opposite quarters show a decoration of two squares in the style of mimasu - three squares.

The roughly cut foot ring and its surrounding show the typical little refined Mino clay...

An antique Gyosho Bako (peddlar's chest) with the original dark brown lacquer. The chest has 4 drawers in the top section. Three of the drawers have iron hardware locks. The bottom section has one hinged locked door with 3 small drawers hidden behind it. Two of the drawers have iron locks. The original loops on both sides are for the rope the peddlar uses to carry the chest.

Japanese Bronze "Signed" Water Dropper, Ca. early Meiji or earlier, beautiful old Bronze Patina with little square raised opening on the top center plus little chimney on the side where water is pouring out little at a time, rectangle shape, 2 1/8" x 1 1/4" wide, 3/8" high, impressed signature on the bottom.
