Boro futonji with many mending patches and sashiko whose ground cloth is hand-spun cotton with stripes. It is dyed with vegetable indigo and the red color looks benibana (saffloer dye). Mending is very nicely done with sashiko. The second half of the 19th to early 20th century. W:94cm, L:172cm

Dragons charge the sides of this large water urn covered in crackled pale glaze emblazoned with a panel which specifies: Water for the 11 Faced Kannon (Quanyin). Inside is lined with iron glaze. Outside key frets surround the rim leading to a nearly flat shoulder upon which blossom five petaled plum flowers. Below this the dragons vie in the tempest, with the base drawing precipitously covered in Shipppo designs (7 treasures). It is 38 cm (15 inches) tall, 34 cm (13-1/2 inches) diameter...

An antique Japanese Todana Tansu (storage chest) made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. Two sliding doors open to a spacious storage area. All original bronze hardware. An antique Japanese 2-panel screen painting of Irises from the Rimpa school in the style of Ogata Korin. Clusters of purple blooms float gently across the panels. Painted in mineral colors over gold leaf.

A playful troupe of elephants parade around the rim of this early bowl by Shigemori Yoko enclosed in a signed wooden box titled Zobachi. The creatures are in relief, raised from the surface, not engraved into it. This was made by pressing the clay slab onto a surface into which were engraved the family of creatures. It is roughly 13cm 12.7 cm (over 5 inches) diameter, 6 cm (2-1/4 inches) tall and in excellent condition.
Shigemori Yoko (1953-2021) was born in Kagoshima...

Like an abstract painting, ink seems to wash over the earthen colored surface of this delicate shallow bowl by Shigemori Yoko enclosed in a wooden box titled Ao-sen Chawan. At first deceptive, upon turning the bowl upside down one sees a scribble of blue. Ao-sen means Blue Line, and those blue lines, thus the answer to why the bwl is titled blue line, are only isible once the tea has been finished...

Wet swirls of color, lavender and thin blue fringed with yellow decorated this odd shaped slab-ware vase by Shigemori Yoko enclosed in a signed wooden box titled Murasaki no Hi (Purple Days). This is a work in unusual style by one of our favorite female artists. It is 22x 8.5 x 19.5 cm (9 x 3-1/4 x 8 inches) and is in excellent condition enclosed in a box annotated by her brother Naoki.

Antique Buddhist painting depicts thirteen Bodhisattva and Wisdom Kings. Signed and sealed. Painted with ink and pigments on silk.

Some insignificant light marks, light crease, foxing and tiny insect damages are present on the painting itself, some light marks and light crease are present on the mounting itself, otherwise the piece is in fine condition for the age...

Metal vase, probably copper, covered with green enamel, partly cloisonné with silver wire and partly "musen" (without wire), chrome metal borders. Stylized rose decoration. Ando's mark struck in the metal below the bottom edge. Good condition. Height 21cm.

The woven silk panel is decorated in the typical Kyoto style of the early Edo period. Sewn on a cotton base. Colored silk threads, and silk threads covered with rolled gold ribbon. The whole is made up of three strips with identical silk decorations sewn together, their width must correspond to the maximum width imposed by the looms of the time? Good condition, which is exceptional as well as the dimensions, 171x165cm. Mark painted in black ink.

Yogi (futon in the shape of kimono) made of hand-spun cotton with tsutsugaki wave pattern and a family crest, which is vegetable indigo dye. Yogi is seen more in colder districts as shoulders are wrapped for keeping warmth. Generally, in good condition but has some stains and spots near the hem, and also some mending patches.
