Beautiful long cloth with benibana dye (safflower dye) shibori pattern. In Edo period, benibana was grown in Yamagata prefecture in Tohoku district and traded to Kyoto in paste. It was very precious and used for luxurious kimono. This cloth might have been used for hem cloth for kaya (mosquito net) hung in the Japanese style room. Faded but in good condition.
