9 METER-LONG GHOST SHUNGA SCROLL

Rare find of very long shunga (pornographic painting) scroll without any texts on paper, approx. 29 x 900cm (11.41 x 354.33in), early 20th century, Japan. Some expected creases and worm holes as is. The story is that an woman who married with a high-ranking Buddhist priest had shortly treated as an object for the sexual pleasure of many priests then died and became a vagina ghost and revenge on those priests.

Box and its tray in black lacquered wood decorated with bindweed in gold and silver powdered lacquer. Details of gold squares. Black interior. Nice finish. No signature. Japanese work from the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th century, Meiji or Showa period. Good condition except for some wear on the corners visible in the photos. No catering.

Chinese Qing to Republic period porcelain lion dog seated with an open mouth revealing ferocious teeth and a well-formed protruding tongue, covered overall with a golden amber glaze. 8 1/2" high x about 8" long. Early 20th century. An old price tag is adhered to the unglazed base. Very good overall condition with possibly a tiny loss or production flaw to the side of one tooth. Heavily distorted shoe shaped (kutsu) Kuro Oribe Chawan from the mid 19th century (late Edo) with a strongly flaring mouth made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potters knife in its lower part and covered with a very deep black iron oxide glaze inside and outside.

A rare and beautiful Japanese KOZUKA KNIFE HANDLE of a by-knife that is part of a sword mounting. It is kept in a slot on the reverse side of a Kattana Scabbard, often with a matching Kogai. It depicts the Gatekeepers arm-wrestling, EDO PERIOD (1603-1868). Shakudo alloy with GOLD decorated appliqué of the Guardian Kings AGYO and UNGYO. Size: 9.5 cm x 1.4 cm.

A fine Arita sometsuke fish shaped dish carefully modelled in the form of a Carp, koi-gata o-sara dating to the late 17C. An antique Japanese Funa Tansu (captain's chest) made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Kiri (Paulownia) woods. Original hand forged iron hardware including the Kakute style drawer pulls and the Warabite style carrying handle. Iron strapping over the exterior of the chest. Front security door opens to reveal 4 drawers. A secret hiding area is accessible when the lower drawer is fully removed. Wooden support braces are present at the bottom.
