Chinese late Qing dynasty rectangular form lacquered wood scholar's desk tray or serving tray, each side with two long pierced openings to the upright walls, each corner with a low raised foot. Late 19th to early 20th century. 13 1/8” x nearly 8 3/4” x 1 1/2” high. Very good, solid overall condition with minor separations in the wood. Netsuke made from a natural lacquered calabash.
Curved around itself, it has a main bulb at the bottom and a second smaller bulb below
the opening. It is narrowed in the middle, where the silk cord is attached. Wooden
stopper with red wax and coral ojime.
The artist dried and emptied the calabash - hence the small hole - before covering it
with lacquer to stabilize and protect it.

Kobako in nashiji lacquer of square shape with a hira maki-e décor of a blossoming
cherry tree. Both of the four sides are adorned with golden lacquer cherry flowers,
represented in both profile and seen from above. The inside is made of hirame lacquer,
and the outline is circled with shibuchi.

A fine Chinese snuff bottle made from quartz, with partially green mottled skin and darker inclusions, well hollowed. One side carved in high relief with a recumbent horse under a tree. The backside carved with landscape in low relief. The stopper is made from pink quartz on a green disc with a bone spoon. Condition: traces of usage, few tiny chips and nicks, stopper reglued. Dimension: c. 7.1 cm high.
