Da Ming Yuan De Nien Zhe six characters mark and possibly of the period. Early Ming Dynasty 15th Century Xuande period. The flat base is incised "ro" in katakana, the mark of Kitaoji Rosanjin (1883-1959). Rope burn marks decorate the buff body which is accented in shades of grey and russet. 9 3/8" diameter x 2 1/8" high sides (tomobako: 12 1/4" square x 3 1/4" high). Early 20th century. Mastromauro Japanese art
EUR €2,000 A wooden okimono depicting two toads, one perched on the other's back.
The carefully crafted wood has a smooth surface with slight ripples that recall the typical wrinkled skin of amphibians. The eyes, inlaid in horn, give the toads a lively and attentive expression.
Harumitsu signature engraved on the base. Complete with box.
Period: Meiji late 19th century.
Dimensions: 14 x 15 x 15 cm.
Condition: Excellent. There is a small opening on the front of the wood.
Mastromauro Japanese art
EUR €4,800 Two-panel screen painted on paper, depicting a naturalistic scene with two pintail ducks in flight over a pond. In the foreground, lotus plants and peonies emerge from leaves and stems of grass that bend gently in the wind, while reeds and tufts of susuki grass complete the composition.
Signed lower right.
Period: Taisho ca. 1920-1930
Dimensions: 183 x 206 cm.
Condition: Excellent. There is slight wear between the joints of the two panels and on the wooden frame.
