The eyes, inlaid in horn, give the toads a lively and attentive expression. Harumitsu signature engraved on the base. Complete with box. Period: Meiji late 19th century. Dimensions: 14 x 15 x 15 cm. Uchikui made of choma (ramie) whose warps and wefts are hand plied. It has auspicious motif, "pine tree, baboo and plum flower", which is tsutsugaki, free hand paste resist dye. The ground cloth is dyed with Ryukyu ai, vegetable indigo of Okinawa and colored with pigments on both sides. Uchikui is not only for wrapping but also for laying out, covering a head or goods.
