Fine, old and rare Chang Naga, three paneled body “prestige” cloth with anthropomorphic cowry shell design. The cloth may have been woven by the Meitei of the Manipur State of India and used as a trade cloth to the Nagas. Made from very fine hand spun cotton weft and silk wapr, the cowry shells have a fine toned aged patina. This is a genuinely old cloth circa 50 to 70 years old (not for the tourist market). Rare Zo/Tedem blanket. The Tedum aka Tiddim are a subgroup of the Chin, who live in Northern Burma, Chin State, bordering India. This piece is circa 1950-1960, spun from commercial, hand dyed cotton thread with some single faced supplementary and diamond twill patterns. Good old Iban pua with warriors pattern flanked by trophy skulls above the shoulders as the main motif. The cloth is in excellent condition with no holes tears etc and woven from hand spun thread- the striped border is woven from commercial thread with the exception of the black band- all natural dyes.
