Vietnamese 15th Century Blue & White Bowl
This bowl was made during the 15th century. It is quite "heavily-potted" and has a high wide foot. It is nicely decorated in underglaze cobalt blue, the colour darker where the glaze is thicker. The pattern comprises floral and lotus leaf patterns, under a crackled glaze. The unglazed inner foot is coated with a chocolate-brown wash. Diameter 14.75 cm, height 9.75 cm...

Very rare ceremonial rice cutter from the Karen people (this particular one is from Northern Thailand). This knife would only be used on the first cutting of the season and as with most all of the rice cultivators in Asia there is a great deal of ritual and importance given to this act, regardless of the religion i.e. Buddhist, animist, Hindu etc. The handle has a wonderful original patina and the blade is till quite sharp.Circa 60 to 100 years old...
