At some point it was brought to Japan, so we can safely assume that it was expropriated during the Edo period, likely 200-300 years previously. The piece was at some point broken into 6 pieces and meticulously repaired using the iconic Japanese gold joinery process known as “kintsugi.” Repairs of this caliber indicate this piece was highly prized and perceived to be of great importance...

Ikat sarong from the upland Karen (Pwo or Sgaw) ethnic group in Northern Thailand. This is woven from all handspun cotton thread and natural dyes.
