Antique Japanese Onigawara rooftile, often found on Buddhist temples. This rooftree depicts the lucky god Daikoku's hammer for prosperity and good fortune, with cascading waters down its sides. Meiji age (1868-1912) Size: 24" L x 6" W x 19" H

A framed Japanese woodblock print of children playing by ukiyo-e artist Keisai Eisen (1790-1848) . Oban size print, it is in very good antique condition consistent with age. Dates late Edo.

A large 17th to 18th century Buddhist sculpture of a Rakan (arahat), well sculpted, his naked torso gilded in gold with robes and shoes in black lacquer, carrying a large urn which is an active incense burner. The sculpture is 2 feet (61 cm) tall and in overall fine condition. There are minor losses to the lacquer and gilding typical of age, and a repair to his left foot. Both little fingers are missing from his hands; these could be repaired if desired at additional cost.

Ash encrusts one side of this flattened Signature form by Shigaraki Legend Furutani Michio enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Opposite is rich red terracotta and in between rivers of molten green glass. It is 45 cm (17-1/2 inches) diameter, and weighs 14 kg (30 pounds) plus the thick Kiri-wood box. This belongs in a museum of contemporary Japanese pottery...

This is pure antique Edo: Wan-shaped tea bowl made of dark, iron oxide bearing, sandy Karatsu clay. The thinly thrown body is covered with the typical white, feldspatic Shino type glaze. It differs from the Mino Shino glaze by being glossier due to a higher ash content.

Under the glaze a line was applied in iron oxide resembling the skin of a whale (kawakujira). Just the foot ring and its immediate surrounding was left unglazed. The glaze has a beautiful fine crazing...

Unusual antique Japanese natural root burl hardwood stand with very interesting and complex gnarling growths. Very dense hardwood with dark lacquer finish. Would make a stunning stand.

Antique Japanese keyaki (elm) wood temple carving of a fu-dog. Beautifully carved with mane of swirling curls and mouth full of sharp teeth, this fierce guardian would have once graced the eves of a buddhist temple roof. Edo Period. With contemporary black metal stand. Size: 15 1/2" high total (10 1/2" high not including stand) x 15" wide x 7 1/2" wide.

Antique Japanese choba tansu (merchant's chest) made with Hinoki (cypress) wood. Tastefully designed with hirute style handles, and slats on its sides and front sliding panels, opening to reveal an open storage area and two drawers. Original honey tone finish. Meiji period (1868-1912) Size: 36" H x 36" L x 17.75" D

Adorable very well excuted Japanese hardwood carving of a frog seated on top of a leaf. He is wonderfully detailed with allover chisel marks due to the hand-carved nature. A Japanese blue and white porcelain mizusashi (water jar) used in the tea ceremony, dating to the late 19th to early 20th century (Meiji period). The vessel is finely potted with a gently rounded shoulder and straight neck, decorated in underglaze cobalt with traditional scrolling and floral motifs. The porcelain body is notably light and refined, consistent with wares associated with Hirado-type production, prized for its clarity of glaze and delicacy of form...

Long a symbol of longevity, good luck, and support in many parts of Asia; in Japan the turtle has the added symbolism of being one of the cardinal protectors of Heian, the ancient capital city of Kyoto. This rendition of a turtle basking on a sunny riverbank was done by one of the most renowned and loved Waka poets of the 19th century, Ōtagaki Rengetsu (1791-1875)...

A healthy, plump, round & gentle-faced, "Kintaro" doll holding a lively carp (also considered a symbol of strength and good luck). In folklore, Kintaro grows up to become a famous warrior. He represents the wishes of parents to have a brave, strong, yet gentle son. Size H: 23 cm W: 13.5 cm. Period: Early Taisho. Condition: Some wearing off of pigment on fish. Short rope that goes in front of hat is detached on one side, but can easily be re-attached (we've kept it as is)...

Gorgeous Japanese two section Yonezawa region tansu, beautiful dramatic woodgrain highlighted by the original lacquer finish. Dramatic Keyaki Hardwood. Stunning cherry blossom crest lock plates and mock (melon style) handles. The top right section has a smaller drawer and locking door with two small drawers hidden away inside. Japanese kiri wood round Hibachi, Ca. 1940's, used entire whole width of tree and showing bold beautiful grains, 12 1/2" diameter-outside maximum measurement, 8" high. Some scratches on the outer wood surface, no restorations, no damages.

Antique Japanese Ningyo doll of a beautiful Geisha, fretting over a strand of beads. She wears an elaborate blue silk kimono with cherry blossoms, and patterns of trickling water in wonderful gold thread, paired with a bright orange obi with gold thread chrysanthemums.
