Dry lacquer mask of the Gigaku traditional theater, finely made and lacquered in black and red colour, representing the character of an old man, with a long aquiline nose, open mouth showing teeth, large smile, very long ears, deep wrinkles all over the face. Inside the mask, a paper label with description of the mask and signature of the artist. Japan, early 20th century. Height: 25.2 cm. Very good condition.

A Shodai-yaki plate from early in the production of that ware, some several hundred years old now. It comes with a label and old monochrome photograph of the piece both stamped with the Kumamoto Museum (Hakubutsugkan) stamp. The plate is a kiln flaw, with a split in the rim in two places which ocured during the firing process, The plate is 27 cm (10-3/4 inches) diameter and is in overall fine condition, enclosed in a red ^-lacquered old Edo period wooden box...

A school of fish crowd the black surface of this spectacular box by Goda Minoru enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Nagare no Naka ni (Amid the Current). The rim is finished with powdered silver, and the interior is black flecked with silver flake Nashiji. It is 27.5 x 21.2 x 5 cm (11 x 8-1/2 x 2 inches) and is in excellent condition.

Made of 'toso' (type of wood composition) inserted 'gyokugan' (glass eyes) into. 19th - early 20th century, Japan. H 23 x W 21 x D 10.5 cm (9.05 x 8.26 x 4.13in)...

A well shaped, big tea bowl, chawan of a type of Mino / Oribe ware, of olive green and dark mottled brown-olive glaze with cartouches decorated on either side with geometric patterns and plant elements in iron-brown on creamy ground. Diam 12,5 cm x H 9,5 cm Excellent condition.

Antique Japanese natsume tea caddy in gold maki-e lacquer. The design is of fans, each with a different picture ranging from pine trees and huts to birds and a wheeled carriage. Various gold and polychrome lacquer techniques used. The inside glitters with a fine, dense nashiji.

An antique Japanese Tansu chest known as a Gifu Choba Tansu in 2 sections made entirely of Hinoki (Cypress) wood. All original hand forged iron fittings and natural aged patina. Upper section has two sliding doors behind which business records and books were stored. The bottom section has 10 drawers of varying sizes, a pair of sliding doors and a hinged security door behind which hides 2 small drawers where valuables were kept...

An antique Japanese Buddhist temple altar offering table made entirely of Keyaki wood. Original bronze hard mounts used to reinforce the Japanese joinery. Removable top used to freshen the look of the table when burns from incense and candles affect its appearance. All sides of the table have a design taken from the Chinese 5th Century Tang Dynasty.

Pair of Japanese Porcelain Seated Hound Dogs. White ground coat with whimsical cloud like patterns in gold, russet, and black. Alternating color collar tied behind the neck with gold bell. Finely rendered teeth and tongue. The impressive scale for the pair, each is sitting with mouths open.

Japanese antique lacquer inro with a scene of a pavilion built over a lake. The inro is in five sections (four compartments) and is lacquered entirely in fine gold maki-e. The scene wraps around the case and displays the detailed buildings nestled in a lush garden. On one, side a tree with large red flowers extends over the water.
