This small elaborate Buddhist monk's medicine bottle is sewn into a larger pouch of burgundy homespun wool fabric with yellow/gold silk lining. When worn, the stopper would be securely held in the bottle by a system of handmade cords and bands. The medicine bottle would be worn outside the robes and suspended on the Monk's belt. A BIRD FORM OIL LAMP, INDIA, 18TH CENTURY.

The bird, possibly a parakeet, forms the oil reservoir of a small suspended oil lamp. Similar birds are illustrated in Mark Zebrowski’s “Gold, Silver and Bronze from Mughal India”, some dating as early as the 16th century. This seems to be a very old example also and so a possible dating to 17th to 18th century seems cautious but fair.

4.1/4 inches long...

A SILVER & ENAMEL PHOTOGRAPH FRAME WITH A CONNECTION TO ORCHA.

The large silver frame of a shape reminiscent of a radiator grille from a Rolls Royce motorcar, engine-turned decoration and with the enamelled crest of the Indian Princely State of Orcha. The frame is of English manufacture and was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1931. It is very likely that this was commissioned by Maharaja Vir Singh II, perhaps one of a number that became gifts to visiting luminaries...

A FINE SILVER EWER, INDIA OR INDO PERSIAN, 19TH CENTURY

This superbly crafted silver jug was possibly used for serving tea or coffee. It seems to be similar to the work produced in northern India. Although unmarked it appears to be made from good quality silver and will polish well, I have left it unpolished so as to show the detailed work better.

Approximately 7.5/8 inches ( 19.4 cm ) high. 680 grams...

AN OLD SILVER & ROCK CRYSTAL ARM BRACELET, INDIA, 18TH / 19TH CENTURY.

The bracelet consists of eleven pieces of facetted rock crystal set into silver mounts, the settings enclosed at the back in order to reflect the light. The stringing ends with gold wrapped thread and a slider to adjust the diameter.

I was told by the former owner that this is an 18th century piece but I am no expert, it is certainly old and so I think an 18th / 19th century attribution is fair...

A SINO TIBETAN BRONZE FIGURE OF YAMA DHARMARAJA, 18TH ~ 19TH CENTURY.

This frightening image is of the protector with a bull’s head and a third eye. Though not now in the best of condition it displays high quality work on the detailing and suggests Chinese work to me. The base plate is held in place with solder, done a long time ago, and may be the original. Yama is attached to the plinth with two tines and readily comes off.

5.1/2 inches high. Two fingertips missing on one ha...
