Indian Subcontinent : India : Paintings : Pre 1700 item #1500309 (stock #01202025A)
Oldbailey Antiques
$1,395.00
Two of the three leaves are from the same manuscript which dates circa the 15th century. The third leaf appears to be the cover page from a different manuscript, although I'm not certain of this as I haven't had the inscriptions translated. Each leaf measures 10-1/2" X 4-1/2". The illuminations measure 3-1/4" X 4-1/4" and employ extensive use of gold, as can be seen in the photos. As with everything I sell, authenticity is absolutely and unconditionally guaranteed to the purchaser.

This is a very detailed, exceptionally well-carved wooden statue depicting Vishnu standing beneath five hooded cobras. Most likely a votive offering or from a personal Vaishnava shrine. The piece measures 5-1/2" in height and 2" in width. The detail on this relatively small statue is exceedingly well-done, as the photos will, hopefully, demonstrate. Pieces of this quality are uncommon.

Oldbailey Antiques
$1,395.00
This is a deeply carved three-dimensional carving from the early to mid-19th century depicting Bhairava, the wrathful form of Shiva. The piece most likely formed part of a processional chariot which would have carried a statue of Shiva. The piece measures 15" X 7" and is over 3" in depth. This is a powerfully dramatic sculpture with a rarely encountered subject. Minor losses to one hand, consistent with its age and ritual use.
