We do not have an example of a Merenide candlestick but those from Egypt are cast in 2 parts which fit together, for the purpose of more practical cleaning of the wax. Its square shape and its incised decoration in the style of "lion's teeth" leads us to think that it is a creation of the Maghreb or Andalusia rather than Syro-Egyptian. Kufic characters are chiseled on the 4 faces. Thick and heavy. Height 10cm...

According to the written indications, this is a "Little Sultan" painted by Angèle Bouët in 1870 in a boarding school called "Pontlieue" near Le Mans. On the back of the drawing, the label of a framer from Le Mans confirms the region. This framer, Zakarie Maignan, was known for his quality work. We found no trace of this painter. Nor was there anything about the child depicted...

A staff final made of iron, the top looks like a pagoda having 8 metal rings and some pendants. These staffs were traditionally carried by Buddhist monks, particularly in East Asian and used as walking aid, weapon and rhythmic instrument. Condition: traces of usage, rusty and slightly bent part. Dimension: 24.6 cm long.
