Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Saddled Horse with Oxford TL Test

This pottery model of a saddled horse was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is "heavily-potted" and made from a reddish pottery. The horse stands alert with its head head up and turned slightly to its left. The surface has been "cold painted" in a reddish-brown pigment with details picked out in red, black and white pigments.

A beautifully polished ritual hand axe in a mottled green nephrite with lighter inclusions dating to the late Neolithic period, circa 3500-2500BCE. 1940s - 1950s, Chinese moss agate low slung lotus style brush washer. The moss agate shows nice markings being genuine and is a light grey/green to darker green in color. The rim has two lotus flowers and two seed pods placed around the undulating and curling top. Condition is excellent having the normal characters of this type agate, which are natural indentations. Having a very lovely shape and design, it measures 6.25" x 5.5" x .75" high.

18C Chinese domed jade plaque carved in low relief with Buddhist auspicious symbols. Color is a whitish pale celadon. It is carved very, very thin with two sets of small holes to the back edge. This may have been attached to clothing or fabric or, perhaps, attached to a large ruyi scepter. Condition is excellent and it is wonderfully translucent. Measures: 4" x 3.25".

This is an authentic example from the Qijia culture, dating to 2100-1600 BCE, of a well-known type of ritual axe, known as a "Yue." It measures 4" in length and 3-3/8" at its widest point (10cm X 8.5cm). This is a diminutive portrayal of a crowned Buddhist figure, most likely a Bodhisattva, dating to circa the 6th century AD, Northern Qi dynasty. Note that the nose and areas of the forehead are darker than the rest of the stone, indicating that they have been rubbed by the hands of worshippers over the centuries, creating a "sweat stain" darkening of the stone...

This is a superbly well carved jade piece dating, I believe, most probably to the Song dynasty, circa 1100AD, although possibly a tad later. The jade is a grayish-green nephrite and is truly the work of a highly accomplished artist. It measures some 3" in length and is 2" in height (7.5cm X 5cm). 1/4" in depth (1mm). A real beauty! Guaranteed authentic to the original purchaser.
