A pair of shoes with leather sole for a Manchurian woman or girl. The cream colored silk embroidered with polychrome silk and couched gold thread depicting birds in a lotus pond. The forward section decorated with ruyi head shaped velvet. Blue cotton lining. Condition: patina, few loose and missing threads, two not embroidered areas with splits. Dimension: 16 cm long, weight: 194 g.
A square cover or shawl made of shiny purple silk beautifully embroidered with birds, flowers, butterflies and tendrils. The long fringes multi-colored. With light blue silk lining. Condition: fine, lining with one hole. Dimension without fringes: 151 cm x 151 cm.

Sold Superb Canton silk hand embroidered coverlet panel, circa late 1800-early 1900, featuring a turquoise background with an overall floral design, a centered peony, bordered with flowers in vases and bat motifs in vibrant shades of reds, greens and orange. The coverlet is made in two panels and measures 54" x 77". The linen backing has been removed showing only border remnants. The condition is near mint with minor fading of the background color...

A decorative fragment taken from the cuffs (horse-hoof shape) of a summer silk dragon robe with five clawed front facing dragons (couched pure silver wrapped threads) on a fish net like gauze weave. Each dragons appears to be wearing headdress. The cuffs from each sleeve are sewn together in the center and the borders are silver brocades. Circa, first half of 19th century. Approx. 19" x 15 1/4"

This is an old hand woven carpet in great quality. The whitish areas shown in some photos are reflections of light on the silk. The five claws dragons are woven on a brown metal background (gilt copper)...

Qing Dynasty (19th century) Chinese Manchu style robe decorated in embroidered dragons chasing flaming pearls (symbolizing the Buddhist notion of enlightenment) executed in gold-couched thread on a blue silk ground. Sold. Thank you! A woven square taken from the front of a Chinese Emperor's robe with a front facing dragon in couched gold and a constellation symbol.
Yellow (or apricot yellow) robes could only be worn by the Emperor or Empress. The color has faded and changed to this current tan color. Each Emperor's robe had twelve symbols of Imperial Authority embroidered on it in specific places. We can see "The Constellation" which represents the handles of Ursa Major, the Big Dipper, just above the dragon's head...
Chinese Qing dynasty (19th century) Daoist priest’s robe densely embroidered in a pattern of complex iconographical symbols set against a pale celadon silk background created entirely from satin-stitch embroidery. The style is the traditional rectangular front-opening form which rests on the shoulders and has the lower part of the sides sewn together to form armholes. Sold. Thank you! There have been decorative textiles sewn into squares or rectangular shapes since the Edo period in Japan. The small squares are made for tea ceremonies; the medium to larger sized ones (called fukusa) are used to cover seasonal and ceremonial gifts. This old Chinese panel was acquired in Japan mixing into our fukusa collection.
A dragon and phoenix together symbolize the emperor and empress in China...
