Nicely carved Chinese agate group showing two birds on a rock with flowers. Dating to mid 20th century. With matching wooden stand. Condition: base of the carving with a tiny flake (not visible), right bird's beak with a tiny chip (see photo No. 11). A lobed form by Nakajima Yasumi enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and in fine condition. The name of Nakajima first came to notice in 1908, when the first generation Yasumi (1877-1950) was awarded at the Senkatsu Kinen Exhibition. Japanese framed print depicting a noh mask of a young woman, in monochrome colors. Attributed to artist Kimora Kosuke (b. 1936), title "Noh Mask Red". With an attractive black and silver frame.

Kosuke was born 1936 in Osaka, and graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts in 1956. His works have been featured in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, New York, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, and others.

An unusual Arita enamelled wall-vase, kakehana, circa 1750. The seed-shaped hollow body is moulded with trailing vines supporting a dragonfly. The painter has used two different greens, aubergine, yellow and black. The unglazed back is pierced for suspension. It is probable that this kakehana was made for the home market.

Approximately 16.7cm long. Perfect condition with only a little wear to the enamels from use.

The evocative form, rising up in an arc to dominate the paper, seems powerful in comparison to the delicate petals clinging to new branches rising from the gnarled limbs.
