This Tibetan shrine shaped gau (aka prayer box) is actually a religious shrine. When not being worn as an ornament during festivals, it would be kept in the prayer niche of the family home. The back of the box slides open. Frequently, a special prayer i.e. sutra pages would be placed inside. A lobed form by Nakajima Yasumi enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and in fine condition. Japanese framed print depicting a noh mask of a young woman, in monochrome colors. Attributed to artist Kimora Kosuke (b. 1936), title "Noh Mask Red". With an attractive black and silver frame.

Kosuke was born 1936 in Osaka, and graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts in 1956. His works have been featured in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, New York, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, and others.

An unusual Arita enamelled wall-vase, kakehana, circa 1750. The seed-shaped hollow body is moulded with trailing vines supporting a dragonfly. The painter has used two different greens, aubergine, yellow and black. The unglazed back is pierced for suspension. It is probable that this kakehana was made for the home market.

Approximately 16.7cm long. Perfect condition with only a little wear to the enamels from use.
