An exquisite pair of 19th century Sometsuke porcelain bottles decorated with butterflies among seasonal flowers. The winged creatures float effortlessly among the bamboo, Chinese bell flower, wild chrysanthemum and other seasonal flora. Each bottle is peaked by a simple rounded wooden bung, and they come enclosed in an age darkened wooden carrying box with hand forged iron handle. This is Indigo dye cotton & katazome dotyubaori coat textile in Edo period(1800)1868). The material is thick cotton in Edo period. Textile seems to be hand spun and woven¡It is very impressive, and beautiful. You can wear it. There is a little, thin stain. However, there is no damage, and the state is very good. This is an exquisite haori. Jackets of this quality, condition, and subject matter are getting increasingly hard to find. Made habutae silk a with brocaded or woven lining, it can be worn or displayed with either side facing outward. The outside is solid black with 5 mons (family crests) and includes the artist signature which appears on the front lower right panel. The inside back panel’s weaving includes the use of gold, silver, and copper-gold metallic lacquered threads...

One of my personal favorite shapes for a chawan, the wa-nari (sometimes pronounced rin-nari) appears firmly grounded and balanced at all times. With round curving surfaces so natural in the hand—they conjure images of ripe fruit waiting to be devoured.

This piece was produced by Koizumi kiln in Aichi Prefecture, most likely by the head potter Kato Shineda—though it only bears the seal of the kiln and not the potter...

A deep oblong bowl decorated in abstract underglaze blue imagery with flashes of red by Shibata Ryozo enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Sometsuke Aka-e Hachi dating circa 1995. It is 17 x 19.5 x 6.5 cm (6-1/2 x 7-1/2 x 3 inches) an is in excellent condition.

An antique Japanese Satsuma Jar that measures about 18" tall x 13" in diameter. The jar has the "thousand faces" design, skillfully executed in gold and raised moriage enamels. On one side is Kannon, the Buddhist Goddess, and on the other I believe it is the Immortal, Lu Tung-pin, who has the power to slay dragons and evil. Additionally there are eighteen Rakan, all of which have the same face. Also there is a dragon flying beneath the Kannon...
