A spectacular heavy basin rendered from the earth covered in rich emerald glaze by Mizuno Sokaku enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Oribe Kaki. Measuring 25 x 23 x 16 cm (10 x 9 x 6 inches) and literally hollowed out from a block of clay, it weighs 5.7 kg (12-1/2 pounds) and is in excellent condition.

Stratified layers fold over in a timeless rhythm on this covered box by Izumita Yukiya enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Sekisoh Futamono. The laminated layers and uneven kiln texture folded over and over again, create a unique cadence on the baked earth which offers the viewer both urbanity and a view of the wilderness that resembles the strata of the earth. Antique Japanese ikebana basket (for flower arrangement). Light color bamboo with oblong form. A round mouth and sides that flatten slightly as they taper down to the bottom where they are bound together with a strip of wood. The upper portion of the basket has a band of tightly woven split bamboo and the lower portion has a bolder weave. A thin belt of dark bamboo divides the upper and lower patterns. Important 'Omizutori' festival lacquer plate from the late Meiji Period. Omizutori (お水取り), or the annual, sacred water-drawing festival, is a Japanese Buddhist festival that takes place in the Nigatsu-dō of Tōdai-ji, Nara, Japan. This ceremony is to cleanse the people of their sins as well as to usher in the spring of the new year. Late Edo (1603-1868) Period Shino Chawan with all highlights of the Japanese aesthetics of wabi sabi. It is in perfect antique condition and comes with its original wooden box, a cloth bag (shifuku) and the attestation of a tea master inside.

Wet swirls of color, lavender and thin blue fringed with yellow decorated this odd shaped slab-ware vase by Shigemori Yoko enclosed in a signed wooden box titled Murasaki no Hi (Purple Days). This is a work in unusual style by one of our favorite female artists. It is 22x 8.5 x 19.5 cm (9 x 3-1/4 x 8 inches) and is in excellent condition enclosed in a box annotated by her brother Naoki.
