Sold! Little distorted half cylinder shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay during the Edo Period with strong black ink glaze and a rarely seen patina.

The expertly thrown body is covered with the typical black iron oxide glaze inside and outside. The chawan has a very rare 'decoration' with hanging persimmons (hoshikaki) scratched into the engobe and a tea room window inside and a plum blossom painted under the clear glaze...

Elegant and sophisticated Shino Chawan, wonderful dialogue of brown and cream Shino crackle glaze, made during the early to the mid Edo period.

It is decorated outside with the Imperial Seal of Japan, the Chrysanthemum Seal and inside with two stars. This design I have never seen on other tea bowls before.

No cracks or repairs, just aesthetic inborn kiln cracks. Gorgeous and rare.

Japanese Noh theater Ko-omote (young lady) mask. Beautifully carved out of wood and delicately painted with the rounded features and slight smile of a young lady. She has the shaved eyebrows which have been stylized and darkened up high on her forehead and the delicate blackened teeth of an upper class woman. Caved mark on the back. Showa Period (1926-1945). Antique Japanese wood carving of Hotei, one of the Seven Lucky Gods of fortune, with beautiful remnants of old lacquer.

A circular form rising to a shallow point at the center, this jingasa is made of hide and cloth shaped in a mold, then finally black lacquered. It is decorated in front with a gold lacquered mon of an enzo which represents eternity. Mounted on a custom iron stand.

14 images spanning two pages each are sandwiched between the silk binding of this two sided accordion album by Zen Priest Inaba Shinden enclosed in the original storage sleeve. The images span from Mount fuji to the Daruma to Zen Circles, each annotated with some verse or Buddhist anecdote. It is in excellent condition, the album (closed) measuring 8-1/4 x 12 inches (21 x 30 cm).
Inaba Shinden (1906-1986) was an important priest of the Rinzai sect of Japanese Buddhism...

Antique Japanese half section Mizuya (kitchen tansu) made of Hinoki (cedar) and Sugi (cypress) hardwoods in a dark lacquer finish. The tansu has two sliding front doors with horizontal slats and side bracing, with very roomy storage interior complete with middle shelf.
