A platform with a cloth screen, lit from the back by candlelight, provided the stage.... The shadow images were black against the white "background". Hence, the puppets had a minimum of color and only the necessary intricate cut outs for personality as they were sometimes presented to the audience with the "handlers" after a performance...

Antique Chinese shard box made of porcelain and silver. The porcelain lid has a charming scene of young boys playing in a courtyard. One boy looks down into a large basin that is cracked and a river of water pours out with a boy climbing out. Two boys are running towards an unknown destination. The boy in the center observes the unfolding scenes while he is watched by his companion. The box is made of silver. The outside has a beautiful floral design that has been hammered into it...

Shufu is a rare Chinese white porcelain that was made during the Yuan dynasty (1206-1368) in Hutian village just outside the city of Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province. Thought to be the first known porcelain ordered by imperial officials. The body of the ware is covered with a soft, white, bluish opaque glaze similar to qingbai, but contained less calcium oxide resulting in slight translucency rather than transparency...

Up for sale is a bolt of antique chinese silk brocade, yardage with roundel of auspicious symbols for Manchu man's robe, 19th or early 20th century. A lot of material, more than enough to make a big robe. 2 groups of 3 small roundels are for making the horse-shoe cuffs as pointed out in the picture. 22nd picture below show a piece of old paper sticks to the corner and a inked seal. Overall is in excellent condition, shinny, no wear, no stain or fading, color is bright...

Up for sale is a very rare antique Chinese silk brocade panel with a large phoenix roundel in the middle, 11.5" diameter, together with other smaller patterns related to buddhism; Qing dynasty, or could be earlier, very intricate piece of art work with fine gold threads; backed with light yellow-ish silk lining. Overall the panel is in excellent condition, folding line in the middle, one water mark in the roundel which I believe can can be cleaned up. Measurements: Approx 44.5" x 28.5".

A fine antique Chinese child's collar with stitch work and fine knitting on the edge. The shawl collar is decorated with auspicious motifs of bats, butterflies, geese, and flowers. The collar is often seen in Chinese fashion during the Qing Dynasty where women wore the collars during formal or auspicious occasions. Age: Qing-Republic Period Size: length 18.5" height 16"

Gorgeous Chinese coat made all of silk with silk embroidered design of blue and white peonies, chrysanthemums and butterflies on an orange silk ground, pattern of waves and rocks along hem, sleeves of white silk embroidered with more flowers and butterflies, forbidden stitch (see detail photo), ribbon applique on sleeves and neck, lined in light blue silk, minor spots and fraying on sleeves, c. 1900. This pair of black silk lotus shoes date to the late Qing Dynasty. Back then, a woman's job was to make shoes for the members of her family. This woman was from a financially comfortable family with servants to do other household chores. Making this pair for herself, she choose a black silk satin fabric for the vamp and made an elegantly sloping sole which would accommodate separate inter changeable heels to be attached...

Near perfect pair of fuschia colored silk Chinese lotus shoes for bound feet. Each shoe is embroidered with delicate gold couching and a silk satin stitched butterfly. In excellent condition they have been packed and stored in a box for the past century. Color is vibrant having not been exposed to sunlight.
