Sold A Set of Three Small Thai Market Chinese Canton Enamel Cosmetic Boxes 19thC
The dark blue enamel with gilt decoration. The interiors with turquoise enamel and the bases with paler blue. Two boxes with composition finials. Chinese 19thC. Diameters: 6.2, 5.3 and 4.1 cm.
Condition: some wear to gilding, minor small chips and a flake.
The actual colour of the enamel is darker than in the images.

$295 DESCRIPTION: A red and gilt ink cake in the form of a turtle with a curled snake on its back. In ancient China, the tortoise and the snake were thought to be spiritual creatures symbolizing longevity. Both the front and back have been finely pressed in raised relief with gilt accents. One of the treasures of the Chinese scholar’s studio, this ink cake is in excellent condition, in its original box, and dates from the first quarter of the 20th C. or earlier. DIMENSIONS: 3” long (7.7 cm).

$295 DESCRIPTION: A Chinese celadon jade pendant, both sides well carved in the form of an archaic mask and strung on a black nylon cord with a round celadon jade bead. Such amulets have a long history in China and would have been worn as a mystical protector against all unseen evil and bad luck. This handsome jade pendant is quite wearable and in excellent condition. DIMENSIONS: 2 ¼” long (5.7 cm)

It has been made from moulded sections that have been luted together. Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Kraak Porcelain Dish (Deer & Birds)
This attractive porcelain dish was made during the Wanli reign (1573 - 1620) of the Ming Dynasty. It has a foliate rim and has been very attractively decorated in underglaze blue of very good colour featuring a variation of the "two deer in a garden" pattern. Although this pattern is well-known, in addition, around the rim, are various leaf & foliage patterns as well as three birds, a rare feature on such dishes... This very attractive porcelain bowl was made during the second half of the 16th century, c.1570 - 1590. The outer wall is very nicely decorated in underglaze blue, the pattern featuring a bird within a floral landscape. A flower blossom within two rings decorates the inside centre. This small and attractive pottery model of an ox, or bull, was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). It is quite "heavily-potted" and made from a reddish pottery. It has been "cold painted" in a base coat of white pigment on top of which have been applied reddish-brown and red pigments. This very rare pottery figure was made during the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 386 - 534). It is made from a buff-coloured pottery that has been "cold painted" in a creamy-white pigment. The kneeling figure is in the act of winnowing. Note the detail of the figure's face and the way in which the long sleeves from his robe are tied behind his back. Height 13 cm... This fine pottery figure of a kneeling entertainer (either a "listener" or someone who acts out stories) was made during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). It is quite "heavily-potted" and made from a fairly high-fired pottery that has been cold-painted in a thick white pigment on top of which are traces of red and black pigments used for highlighting the details of the clothing and facial features.
