17th century scene of "Son Returns Home After Making His Fortune to the Surprise of His Family". Hand painted with inks on silk, we are dating this painting pre 1900. Not examined out of frame, it looks to be in excellent antique condition. Measures in frame 20" x 38" high, site size 14" 27" high.

Chinese landscape painting with two literati figures riding a boat and enjoying the scenery. The work is titled: Guan Lushan, or View Mt. Lu. The inscription reads: Painted around late spring of 1918 following the style of Wen Hengshan. Signed: Longcheng Jushi, Huang Shanshou. Seal also reads the artist's name. A sublime calligraphy scroll having a Chinese attribution. The rough and swift strokes of the calligraphy can be seen as if movement is caught frozen in time. The calligraphy reads as an auspicious poem where the poet is using the flow of water in relation to the spread and development of the family with generation after generation of children. Signed Xiuyang.

Painting on woven paper. An unusual and surprising technique. The paper is cut out then this woven paper is painted. However there is a subtlety because in some places only the vertical strips are painted and not the horizontal ones which shows us colored squares alternating with unpainted squares which gives a blurred effect anticipating our "pixels" and which, I think, gave the illusion of a woven fabric...

Cast bronze censer gilded with mercury. Decor of Greek friezes and incised precious objects. The gilding is largely worn, we still see some in the places most protected from wear and tear. It is thick and of good quality, it is a hot-pasted mercury gilding technique. The handles are attached to the body they were cast with it, they are not added, riveted or welded, they represent dragon heads. On the base foot we can see a vertical dark trace of solding that is probably an old restauration...

A sitting bronze figure was nicely cast.
Being depicted as a scholar with flouring robe and a official hat, the figure was in casual mood by resting his arm to the stool beside him.
It was perfectly preserved with nice darken patina.

A mounted painting of a bird perched on a branch with a signature and seal signed Zhao Shaoang (1905-1998). Zhao Shaoang was known for his contemporary and bold styles specializing in bird and flower images. The strokes used for the plants reminisce strokes seen in calligraphy. Age: 20th century. Antique Chinese bronze water dropper in the form of a crawling baby. Cast in bronze with details of traditional baby clothing tied at the back of the neck. The baby crawls forward with one leg slightly bent, elbows on the ground and face forward. When submerged, water would have flowed into the dropper through he hole in the baby's back...

Antique pair of small bronze seated Qilin. Cast with heads facing upward and mouths open. Details of scales and striated tails. Each has a single horn. As scholar objects, it is possible that these were once used as scroll weights. Each Qilin stands on an antique carved hardwood stand.
