Never before offered anywhere, is this extremely rare zitan treasure shelf. These were a favorite of any good scholar who would place his small objects of miniature toggles, snuff bottles, jades, etc. The design is simple, streamlined and clean; which is a feature of the late 18th to early 19th. Often zitan lacked excessive carving, due its natural beauty which never required a coat of lacquer. The wood is in excellent condition and has a very natural dark patina that only comes with time...

A beautiful and decorative object that would have been placed on a scholar’s desk for contemplation. Artistic scholar’s rock (gongshi) made of bronze. This relatively rare type of gongshi was made by dripping red-hot molten bronze onto a pile of fresh pine chips. When coagulating the bronze would then “freeze” into its present form. A four character calligraphy piece attributed to Liu Bingsen (1937-2005). Liu Bingsen was noted for his contemporary interpretations and styles in Chinese calligraphy. A beautiful and exquisite Chinese painting, signed Tao Ran Yu, with red chop in corner. The painting is a foggy, snowy scene with an icy river flowing down its center. Snowy mountains loom in the distance, with a full moon peering through the fog. Many stalks of bamboo and blades of grass are covered in blueish ice. Flecks of mica have been incorporated to give the picture a shimmery appearance...

Chinese scholar rock of an over hanging ying stone, mounted on a carved Suzhou rosewood stand with five cabriole legs and an undulating stretcher. The base is decorated in high relief of lingzhi fungus and swirling clouds.
