Two platinum spikes erupt from the black glazed surface of this Kurinuki vase hollowed out from a black of black clay by Masatomo Toi, the first Kurinuki vase he has created (we think he is on to something). It is 21 cm tall, 25 x 23 cm (10 x 9 inches including the spikes. It comes with a signed wooden placard, directly from the artist.

It is "heavily-potted" and made from a buff-coloured pottery that has been "cold painted" in various different coloured pigments. A fisherman's work wear hand-woven of hemp for both wefts and warps. Both natural color and indigo stripes are hemp yarn, which are hand plied. It is from Tsushima in Nagasaki prefecture, an island located between Korean Peninsula and north Kyushu, and the textile is called Tsushima-asa.
