Sold, thank you! There is no doubt about the superlative nature of the deep celadon glazes used by Living National Treasure Nakajima Hiroshi, and this vessel is no let down. A creamy blue crackling glaze covers this artful form which comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled simply Seiji Tsubo. It is 10-1/2 inches (26.5 cm) tall, 5-1/2 inches (14 cm) diameter and is in excellent condition.

Right margin has toning. Hironaga traveled throughout Japan to make prints of its traditional buildings. The influence of his friend Kiyoshi Saito is apparent in this work.

$975.00 Small porcelain ko-sometsuke plate made in China for the 17th century Japanese market. Blue and white design of three running rabbits. A bird, possibly a phoenix flies in the sky. Around the rim of the plate are four galloping horses. The underside of the plate is decorated with three thin blue rings and a simple dot pattern. The edges of the plate and the many small irregularities in the firing are especially prized in this type of ware.

sold What an atmosphere, this is what the Japanese call wabi-sabi. Full cylinder shaped (Tsutsu) tea bowl with a rounded brim, made of light, very coarse, unrefined Hagi clay. The expertly thrown body was roughly trimmed with a potter's knife in its lower part. The rather high foot is traditionally cut in one place (so called 'wari kodai'). Our chawan was covered with an opaque glaze, which is a mixture of ash and feldspat. It shows a beautiful fine crazing from many years of careful us... This intricate floral embroidery panel may have been part of a larger piece which probably predates the carved frame that now houses the panel.
The background silk is a rich dark brown and the ornate floral display can be positioned either horizontally or vertically.
During the framing process, sometime between 1900-1920, The fragment was glued to a cardboard backing...where it remains today...
