1900's Japanese Cast Iron Kettle Tetsubin Signed Ryubundou (KINRYU-DO)

It is 8.3 inches (21.3 cm) tall measured with handle up and 5.5 inches (14 cm) tall measured with handle down by 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) wide. It is 3.8 lb.

It has rust, oxidation, cracks at the opening rim, and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos).

A large 17th to 18th century Buddhist sculpture of a Rakan (arahat), well sculpted, his naked torso gilded in gold with robes and shoes in black lacquer, carrying a large urn which is an active incense burner. The sculpture is 2 feet (61 cm) tall and in overall fine condition. There are minor losses to the lacquer and gilding typical of age, and a repair to his left foot. Both little fingers are missing from his hands; these could be repaired if desired at additional cost.

A superb Iga Mizusashi by Saji Kotaro enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 7 inches (18 cm) diameter, 7-1/2 inches (19 cm) tall and in excellent condition. Saji Kotaro was born in 1947, and relocated to Tajimi in 1977 where he opened a kiln in Yamabuki cho specializing in tea ceramics.

Ash encrusts one side of this flattened Signature form by Shigaraki Legend Furutani Michio enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Opposite is rich red terracotta and in between rivers of molten green glass. It is 45 cm (17-1/2 inches) diameter, and weighs 14 kg (30 pounds) plus the thick Kiri-wood box. This belongs in a museum of contemporary Japanese pottery...

Egrets in flight decorate the art-deco influenced shape of this faceted hanging vase by Nakamura Suiko enclosed in the original signed wooden box. According to the inside of the box, this was one of three made for submission to the 5th Nihon Bijutsu Tenrankai (Nitten, 1949). An entry in the catalog for that year states that Nakamura Suiko of Ishikawa prefecture exhibited a “Tri faceted Porcelain Hanging Vase Decorated with Egrets”...

This is pure antique Edo: Wan-shaped tea bowl made of dark, iron oxide bearing, sandy Karatsu clay. The thinly thrown body is covered with the typical white, feldspatic Shino type glaze. It differs from the Mino Shino glaze by being glossier due to a higher ash content.

Under the glaze a line was applied in iron oxide resembling the skin of a whale (kawakujira). Just the foot ring and its immediate surrounding was left unglazed. The glaze has a beautiful fine crazing...

A large vase by Living National Treasure Shimizu Uichi enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Tenmoku-yu Kabin inside a black lacquered wooden niju-bako box. It is 14-1/2 inches (37 cm) tall, 8 inches (20 cm) diameter and in fine condition.
Shimizu Uichi (1926-2004) was born in Kyoto the son of a ceramic dealer. Discarding the family business he apprenticed in plastic arts under Ishiguro Munemaro...
