Antique Japanese two section mizuya (kitchen tansu), made with Hinoki (cypress) frame and Sugi (cryptomeria) sides with slats. The front features Persimmon wood panels with dramatic natural grain on its drawers. Other charming detailing includes mesh sliding doors with wood panels carved in floral motifs and decorative handles. Very attractive in design and functional for storage. Dates from the Meiji period c1900. Size:37" L x 16.25" W x 64.75" H

A black lacquered lid covers the opening of this exquisite mizusashi by Tsukigata Nahiko enclosed in a wooden box titled Oni Shino Mizusashi and endorsed by his student Ayukai Kogetsu. It is 7-1/2 inches (19 cm) diameter, 6 inches (15.5 cm) tall and in excellent condition.
Tsukigata Nahiko (1923-2006) was not only an accomplished ceramic artist, but also a painter, calligrapher, sculptor and musician...

and it has become summer, and rivulet murmurs cool and clear...

Netsuke nicely carved to represent a man standing with a slightly mischievous expression and posture. Ivory, with a fine age patina. Japan, mid Edo Period. Height: 5.9 cm. Minute age cracks (absolutely no damage), slight erosion, otherwise very good condition.

Okimono nicely carved to represent a bearded dignitary standing, wearing formal attire. Ivory, fine patina. Japan, early 20th century. Height: 25 cm. Old accidents and restorations (see photos), otherwise good condition.

This is really a rarely seen example of antique Japanese ceramic art: impressive Katakuchi Chawan (tea bowl with a spout), made of unrefined Mino clay. Katakuchi chawans of that age are barely available on the antique market. It is the only one in our collection. So take your chance.

Otafuku, the embodiment of feminine warmth, smiles softly as she draws her robes up, a large pottery figure by Teishitsu Gigei-In Suwa Sozan I. An identical image with overglaze enamel decorations is visible in the 1929 posthumous exhibition catalog (Copies included). It is over 15 inches (39 cm) tall. This haori is made with a fabric of lush silk with subtle weave pattern design. In contrast, the silk lining has a bold floral design. This is one garment that can easily be worn with the "correct side" outside or inside out....

Antique Japanese sumidagawa ware vase with an incredibly realistic three-dimensional dragon coiled all around the body of the vase. The vase itself is very textured in body with a vertically ribbed form as well as tight ridges horizontally. The upper body and neck are glazed in thick oil spill colors.
