Toyotomi Hideyoshi seated in a court position wearing dramatic brocades and
lacquered armor, a fan in his right hand and wearing a classic Eboshi cap.

large-scale Edo period example (circa 1800) of Musha-ningyo warrior dolls for
the Boy's Day display. Takenouchi is depicted kneeling and holding the baby Ojin in his arms. He has an unusually animated and well-rendered
face, with fine gofun lacquer and painted features. Both figures have rich silk brocades in near mint
condition. Height: 15 inches, 38 cm.

Sold, with thanks! An exquisite wooden plate in cinnabar lacquer over black wrapped in a chord bound cloth bag end enclosed in an age blackened kiri-wood box dating from the Edo period. The surface of brilliant red has been worn through with handling revealing the black beneath about the rim and edges. It is 9 inches (23 cm) diameter and in excellent condition. The bottom is a brown tinged black (the brown is a product of oxidation, inherent only with age) upon which are written two characters in red...

Sold Sold! Little distorted half cylinder shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay during the Edo Period with strong black ink glaze and a rarely seen patina. The expertly thrown body is covered with the typical black iron oxide glaze inside and outside. The chawan has a very rare 'decoration' with hanging persimmons (hoshikaki) scratched into the engobe and a tea room window inside and a plum blossom painted under the clear glaze...

$450.00 Original Japanese woodblock print by Kitao Masanobu (1761 – 1816) from the “Eastern Tune Koyka by Fifty Poets”, date 1786. The color woodblock print depicts an image of a seated warrior with a poem above. Print has toning, spots, and marks throughout, fading to inks, loss of red ink stripes on face, abrasions to lower right corner. Not examined out of frame.

But it is probably an Edo period work (might expect more wear on the seppa-dai or more conspicuous tekkotsu on an older example.) The thin body nonetheless resilient. Strong, sparse, decorative file marks on the vertical add to character. Adept use of the file, thin plate and slight taper toward the rim could support argument a swordsmith may have made the tsuba...
