Mid Edo period Hagi Chawan in the stylish shape of modest slight distortion. It is roughly coated in slightly glossy white slip and bears beside a wari-kodai (splitted foot) a fantastic 'landscape' on the inside.

But the highlight is the old gold restoration, a fantastic gintsugi (kintsugi) which makes our Hagi tea bowl so valuable and outstanding.

The chawan comes together with a good wood box and a blue shifuku for a perfect protection...

This appears to be an incarnation of Shindara Daisho of the 12 guardian deities (Juni Shinsho). He has glass eyes and stands on the original Daiza.. The Deity is 21 inches (53.5 cm) tall, total height with stand is 33 inches (83 cm). Later Edo period (18th-19th century). The left hand has been replaced.

This beautiful chawan (tea bowl) was made in the oribe style, a more than four hundred year old tradition from the central part of Japan in the ancient Mino province.

That tradition was in part influenced by tea master and warrior Furuta Oribe (1545-1615) who developed his own style of tea ceremony. The bowl is very well made and in perfect condition. It dates from the mid Edo Period and has no repairs or damages except inborn kiln cracks...

Late 18th, Early 19th Century Edo Period Japanese Wood Horse Sculpture in a galloping pose. The horse still has a good amount of its original colors and gold gilt. It would have been offered as a gift to a Shinto shrine from someone with the means to afford more than the usual horse plaque, but not quite the means to afford to give a real horse to the shrine, a gift only the most wealthy could afford to give. A lovely mizusashi for tea-ceremony. This piece dates from the Edo period and is of the e-Seto variety, “e” meaning drawing. Featuring rich earthy tones and intricate hand-drawn stencil designs of what appear to be a ring of passion flowers resting on a vine, this splendid composition leaves a lasting impression. This is Noren used by a cotton merchant in Kyoto during the Edo period. Cotton is thick and spun by hand. It is boldly written in Tsutsugaki. It is dyed with natural indigo. Here we offer another Japanese tea kettle from our collection. It is a cast iron relief tetsubin from the late Edo Period. It is signed by the unknown artist. It has a tasteful design.

Inside is some rust but no water leak. Great atmosphere. A real antique tetsubin.

A deep and mournful sound emanates from this ancient Temple bell from Zennoji temple dated the 20th day, fourth month of 1686. One panel is inscribed Humbly presented, Shokakuzan Zenno Zen-Temple treasure, For the Nyodendoshi-Mujo Bosatsu Buddha. It is further inscribed Donated by Harada Shitaro of Saijo Village for the priest Jusanzoshu. We have been told by the previous owner this and another bell are from Zennoji Temple in Kanazawa prefecture...

The surface of this black glazed bowl signed on the base Dohachi has been impressed all over with seals in a style known as In-chirashi. It comes in an ancient wooden box with ebony rim titled inside Dohachi Saku (Chirashi-in) Chawan, while outside a much-worn paper label reads In-chirashi Dohachi Saku Chawan...
